Who are the SBG Sox?
SBG Sox begins its 17th season in the 2024 Fall. Youth teams are classified as 7U - 14U, with teams formed in all locations annually to compete in select travel baseball at all skill levels. Teams have an experienced coach that played baseball at a high level. Owned by P360 Performance Sports, player development is the focus, with teams training in our facilities as a team. Coaches are usually employees of P360 Performance Sports. Teams will play 3-4 tournaments in the Fall, then continue to train in November - January. The team determines the schedule for the Spring and Summer. 13U & 14U players prepare for high school and Showcase Baseball. In Mississippi, 14U players tryout for an SBG Sox HS Summer Showcase Team in May of each year.
How does a player make an SBG Sox team?
Each summer and winter, SBG Sox hosts tryouts in Jackson, Hattiesburg, Gulf Coast, Birmingham, Auburn and Mobile AL. Tryouts are comprehensive and can take over an hour as players are evaluated by staff to determine the skill level & positions of the players. Invitations are extended as early as the night of the tryouts, but can take up to two weeks as over 1,500 players will attend summer tryouts. When an invitation is extended, the roster spot is held for 24 hours for the player, then the next player on a roster is extended. Rosters are completed by early August. Players and families sign their contracts in August, and the season begins on September 1 of each year. Winter tryouts are held as needed for players that were unable to play in the Fall. These players make up new teams or add players that may be needed for current teams.

Frequently Asked Questions
What happens at the tryout?
- All players are given the opportunity to show their skills. Each player is evaluated to determine their skill level, and teams are built based on matching skill levels. In the Fall, players are evaluated to ensure we got it right, and very occasionally players may be asked to move to another team to make sure they have a better experience. Players are offered to play by receiving an invite card via text, and can accept by signing up in the link from the text. Invitations may start as early as the day of the tryout, but generally will take a few days as players are projected, by position(s) for each team. All players receive an email if a roster spot is not yet available for them based on their skill level, and may be asked to come back in and do a work out to see them again.
Where do teams practice?
- P360 Performance Sports owns and operates the SBG Sox, and operates 8 facilities in Mississippi and Alabama. Coaches and instructors work at these facilities, and also serve as the indoor practice facility. Local parks are utilized as P360 arranges agreements for teams to practice throughout the Fall, Spring and early Summer. Players are also P360 members, allowing access to hitting and pitching cages, daily skills classes, and reduced cost for private individual instruction.
How many players make an SBG Sox team?
- Generally teams consist of 10 players, but in some instances there may be one or two more. Teams are built by professional evaluations to project positions for each player. Based on these evaluations, players are grouped into similar skill levels, and then positions are projected from those players, creating teams with players that generally have the same skill level. If more pitching is needed, another player may be added to assure the team is competitive at all positions for example. Adjustments may be made if a player is not being challenged after the Fall season, or if a player is struggling. These decisions are only made with the input from the parents, coaches and administrators.
Where do SBG Sox teams play tournaments?
- Everywhere. P360 Performance Sports has agreements for its teams to play in Perfect Game, Grand Slam, USSSA, 2D Sports, and more. Teams create their own schedules and can play in any event - including those teams that choose to play in New York, Pigeon Forge, Gulf Coast events - it's the team's choice.
If I register and attend a tryout in Pearl (@ Brandon High School) am I still eligible to be assigned to a Madison/Ridgeland based team?
- Yes, there has been a great amount of interest in SOX BASEBALL from Rankin county and while we intend to build teams based out of our Pearl facility we will ultimately assign the player to the team that best suits his skills, player development, playing time, and preference.
