This week slugger Fischer Howell proved that being named the Player of the Week a few weeks ago was only the beginning. Playing for Coach Donnie Bridges in the Hattiesburg Division, Fischer followed that up with another 2-homer (and another grand slam) performance while batting .375, scoring 4 runs and adding 6 RBI to his season total to again be selected as the Academy Sports Sox Spotlight Player of the Week as voted on by 50 Sox coaches and administrators.
For the season, Howell leads the SBG Sox 12U Group - which includes 8 teams - in most offensive categories: Quality At Bats (22), OPS (1.692), Slugging % (1.208), RBI (15), Home Runs (6). Of his 15 RBI, 7 of those have come with two outs.
Each week during the Spring and Summer seasons Academy Sports + Outdoors presents the Spotlight Player, as voted by SBG Sox coaches and administrators. The nominations are from all age teams in all youth age groups playing that weekend, and are based on the performance of that tournament. Each weekly selection will receive a $20 Gift Card from Academy Sports, good at any location.
At the conclusion of each month, a Spotlight Player of the Month will be selected and recognized for his overall performance for the month. The monthly selection will receive a $50 Gift Card from Academy Sports, good at any location.
